Pool

The pool house is the heart of BW2 activities during the summer season, and the pool is managed by a dedicated team of certified lifeguards who are also responsible for much of the summer programming. Please find information about our current lifeguard team in our current Program website.

Weather‐permitting, the pool opens each year on Victoria Day weekend, and closes on Labour Day; pool hours are communicated via the website and email. They can also be requested at our Pool Hotline. The pool is open to residents of BW2 family and friends must be accompanied by a resident at all times (see our Pool Guest Policy below). The pool is heated, and there are men’s and women’s change rooms with showers.

Swim lessons are held weekday mornings during July and August in two‐week sessions. Lesson fees are nominal and follow Red Cross levels. Aquafit classes, a water polo tournament, swim meets, theme nights, craft days and many other activities round out the regular pool house action. Please find a complete list of our events and programs in our current Events and Program website.

You can visit our Forms website to obtain the swimming and activities registration form. The pool is also available for rental up in the weekends up to 2 hours before the pool opens. Visit the same site to obtain the rental form.

Pool Rules

Our BW2 pool is a Class B pool (as defined by Region of Waterloo Public Health). Our rules are adapted from the guidelines suggested by the Region of Waterloo Public Health.

  • A swim test is required for children using the pool for the first time each summer.
  • Children 8* years of age and older who have passed the facility swim test may swim unaccompanied. They are expected to obey the directions of the lifeguards at all times, and must be able to return home independently if requested by the lifeguards or should the pool close unexpectedly.
  • Non-swimmers and children under the age of 8* must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who is at least 12 years of age and responsible for their direct supervision.
  • Parents or guardians are responsible for the children in their care while at the pool and must directly supervise them at all times. Guardians must be at least 12 years of age.
  • The maximum ratio of non-swimmers to parent or guardian is 4:1. The maximum ratio of swimmers under the age of 8* to parent or guardian is 8:1.
  • If a parent or guardian needs to leave the poolside they must leave their child/children under the supervision of another parent or guardian. THE LIFEGUARDS ARE NOT BABYSITTERS.
  • Children in flotation devices and children who have not passed the facility swim test must remain in the shallow end of the pool, unless accompanied by a parent or guardian who is in the water with them.
  • During swim lessons the pool is not available for public swim (Mon-Fri 9:00am to 12:00pm during July and August).

Pool Guest Policy

(Updated May 2018)

  • BW2 pool rules are posted at the entrance to the pool. It is the BW2 member’s responsibility to ensure that his/her guests are aware of the pool rules and that they respect the facilities and lifeguards at all times.
  • All guests to the pool must be accompanied by a BW2 member. It is the responsibility of the BW2 member to introduce both child and adult guests to the lifeguards on duty and to sign their guests in at the start of each visit. The lifeguards have a sign-in sheet for this purpose.
    • Exception: sponsored swim class participants and morning activities participants do not need to be accompanied by a BW2
member during their participation in these registered programs. At all other times, guests must be signed-in and
      accompanied by a BW2 member.
  • BW2 child members may be accompanied by guests (i.e. babysitters, relatives, visitors) who have introduced themselves to lifeguards on duty and signed-in. The general rules regarding age and supervision must be followed. [see “BW2 Pool Rules”]
  • A BW2 member may be permitted to leave guests at the pool at the discretion of the lifeguards on duty. The lifeguards on duty must be
consulted and must give approval before a guest is left at the pool without an accompanying member.
  • Re: Swim Lessons/Morning Activities
    • Non-members are welcome to resister for BW2 Swim Lessons/Morning Activities provided they are sponsored by a BW2 member.
